- Architecture Degree - There are 3 types of professional degrees in architecture. The degree best suited for students with no previous experience is the 5 year bachelor's degree. Students who possess and undergraduate degree in architecture, or related, are offered a two year master degree. Students who have earned a degree in another discipline may attend a 3 or 4 year master's degree.
- Landscape Design School - There are two types of undergraduate professional degrees offered; a BLA
(Bachelor of Landscape Architecture)and a BSLA (Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture). Four or five years of study is typically required to earn these degrees. Studies within include natural and social sciences, history and art, design and construction techniques.
- Land Surveyor - Offered through either community colleges, technical institutes or vocational schools are the one, two or three year programs in surveying or survey technology. A number of universities offer a Bachelor Degree in Surveying.
- Cartographers Training - Cartographers and usually possess a bachelor’s degree in cartography, surveying, geography, forestry, engineering, physical science or computer science. A minimal number enter the field after working as a technician.
- Drafting Training - Intensive technical training is offered within technical institutes, but overall provide less general education than community colleges. Both award diplomas and certificates with most technical institutes offering a two year associate degree. This degree is similar to those offered through State university systems and community colleges.
- Landscape Architect - What a delightful occupation - to spend your days making outdoor locations more attractive and useful! Landscape architects work with engineers, surveyors and architects in the decision making process as to the placement of buildings and roads. Also, environmental scientists and landscape architects work to conserve and restore our natural resources.
Employment will be particularly favorable for architects knowledgeable in 'green design'. Green design is also considered sustainable design, emphasizing energy efficiency, waste reduction and environmentally friendly design materials and specifications. The increase in energy costs and mounting concern for the environment will lead to a growing number of 'green' buildings.
