Many online engineering degree programs entail a focus of study in an engineering specialty, along with classes in both the physical and life sciences and mathematics. Although most institutions provide programs in the major fields of engineering, only a few offer programs in the smaller fields. Also, programs of the same title may differ in subject matter. For example, some programs focus on industrial practices, preparing students for a job in industry, while others focus more on theory and aim to prepare students for graduate work. Therefore, students should analyze curriculums and research accreditations fully before deciding on a college.
